There may be some people out there who are getting tired of being told to shop/support local/domestic. Some may not care, while others may not believe they have a great impact so their support won't be missed. . .

So I decided I will take you through a tour of my supply chain for 1 piece of furniture. I will not give actual costs as this varies with each project. I will mention companies and brands - consider this supporting local / Canadian by promoting. There a few minor exceptions in supply. Beside this is a picture of a popular low cabinet I build.

The material for projects comes from either Woodview Farm & Forest Products here in Lindsay or Monaghan Lumber Specialties in Peterborough. The glass comes from Lindsay Glass & Mirror on Cambridge Street. The hardware comes from a Canadian supplier - Richelieu Canada from Quebec. My glue of choice is Weldbond - made by Frank T. Ross & sons in Markham. Now you might say that's not carpenter's glue, from experience I know there are pieces made by my father over 40 years ago using Weldbond as well my work from over 20 years ago made with the same glue. My stain of choice is water-based  Saman stain made in Quebec, purchased from Ardec also in Quebes. My top coat of choice is Beauti-tone Wood shield acrylic polyurethane from Home Hardware - made in Ontario ( see support ontario made site). Other projects are made of hardwood and are finished with oil products for Grand Finishing systems in Guelph.

Below the picture of the low cabinet is a gallery of the pictures of some of the products mentioned.

This doesn't include the fact I pay property taxes & utilities to City of Kawartha Lakes. If machinery needs repair it gets repaired here in town. If I need new gear I purchase that from either a local store or Canadian retailer. So that purchase / commission spreads out and contributes to the well being of many local / Canadian companies and their employees. Yes it may be small but every bit counts and adds up.

So lets keep supporting local and buying Canadian!
